Edgar's Mission

The main role of volunteers at the sanctuary is that of farm hand.  We truly appreciate those members of the community who are able to donate their time to come and help us out. Whilst not always the most glamorous tasks await our volunteers, the role volunteers play in ensuring the welfare of our residents is paramount! Yes it can be dirty and yes, it will be physical, but the benefits will be returned to you ten-fold!  This is a wonderful opportunity to really get to know the residents of Edgar’s Mission and be part of something bigger than all of us! Being a Sanctuary, we work through all sorts of weather – rain, hail and shine - whatever Mother Nature throws at us!

Position ongoing/current

Edgar’s Mission is a not for profit Farm Sanctuary that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. Our farm sanctuary is located on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside Lancefield, nestled in the tranquility of the Macedon Ranges and currently provides life-long love and care to over 300 rescued animals.

We offer sanctuary to farmed animals in need while working to expand the public’s circle of compassion to include all animals. We endeavour to achieve this through education, advocacy and empowerment and promote compassionate and cruelty free living. Our mission is simple, our mission is kindness.

Being a Sanctuary, we work through all sorts of weather – rain, hail and shine – whatever Mother Nature throws at us!  It is best that you bring with you a pair of gloves (something like gardening gloves will suffice) and perhaps some waterproof shoes like gumboots as it may be very muddy, or at the very least sturdy enclosed footwear.  We do have some spare gumboots that you’re welcome to borrow, however sizes are limited.  It is also strongly advisable to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and probably a waterproof jacket.  A sunhat, sunscreen and spare change of clothes is also recommended.
