All Reading is a not-for-profit organisation aiming to address literacy issues across Central Victoria and beyond. We are seeking volunteer Reading Coaches to join our team. Hours required are during business hours and after hours in some cases. This volunteering role will be located at Woodend and Kyneton. If you are interested in this role we would be delighted to hear from you!
All Reading is a social enterprise aiming to improve literacy across Central Victoria and beyond. We train and support volunteer reading coaches to teach reading, among other projects. Volunteers attend approximately 8 hours of training and receive ongoing support as they begin to teach. Volunteers work one-to-one with a learner generally twice a week for 45 minutes using a highly effective, structured teaching program Turning Pages.
The program allows the learner to work at their own pace and to gain all the underlying skills they need to be a strong reader. The program has been used successfully by volunteer coaches with thousands of learners across the UK. We are working in a variety of settings including primary and secondary schools during school hours and are aiming to be working with adults at neighbourhood houses in the near future.
This role is life changing not only for the learner but also for the coach as they develop strong relationships with their learners and see the incredible impact of literacy on people’s lives.
Feel free to ring us for further information about becoming a reading coach or getting involved in the organisation in other ways.
Reading Coaches must be available to meet with learners twice a week for 30 minutes at a time. Reading Coaches receive 9 hours of initial training, and are provided with ongoing support and assistance with their coaching. Learners are adults aged 16 or over. All Coaches must be willing to undergo Police and Working With Children checks.
This volunteering role will be located at Woodend and Kyneton.
